Iowa Unemployment, 2006-2012

This map shows the unemployment rate by county in Iowa. Use the slider or arrows to move from month to month; mouse over the map to see county names. Based on Iowa’s peak-to-trough job numbers, the recession here started in May 2008 (about six months after the onset of the national recession) and lasted about six longer (through June 2009). Unemployment peaked statewide, at 6.2 percent in late 2010.
